Sângerei is a city in the north of the Republic of Moldova, the administrative center of the district with the same name. Located on the Ciuluc River, the city has a rich history and a vibrant community. With a population of approximately 9,954 inhabitants (2024 census), Sângerei is an important economic and cultural center of the region.
The first documentary mention of the settlement dates from 1546. Over the centuries, Sângerei was an important commercial and agricultural point. During the Soviet period, the city developed industrially, becoming a district center in 1940. After the independence of the Republic of Moldova in 1991, Sângerei continued to develop as an administrative and economic center of the district.
Sângerei district is located in the northern part of the Republic of Moldova, approximately 120 km from the capital Chișinău. The total area of the district is 1,039 km², and the terrain is predominantly hilly, with wide valleys and fertile agricultural land. The climate is temperate-continental, with warm summers and moderate winters.
Sângerei district includes 2 cities (Sângerei and Biruința) and 24 communes, comprising 70 localities. The district administration is led by the District Council and the District President. The City Hall of Sângerei manages the local affairs of the district center.
